“Yes yes me”
Words of Ryoma Source: 29th June, 3rd year of Bunkyu era, in a letter to Otome Sakamoto Yes yes me, I have just thought of something interesting. In June 1863 (3rd year of Bunkyu era), Ryoma was busy working for establishment of a Navy school in Kobe. Despite his busy schedule, he wrote a reply to his sister, Otome’s letter, in which she was pessimistic and complained about the discord with the family she married into. In response to Otome’s appeal to become a nun and retire to a place deep in the mountain, Ryoma said he had a good idea and that if Otome travels around the country as a female monk, it wouldn’t cost a penny to take a long trip, so it would be enjoyable if she can be a monk forever. That is how Ryoma tried to dissuade her. Sisyu: “I found some letters with such phrase, probably written when Ryoma was in a good mood. I wrote so you could picture Ryoma putting his chin up slightly, stroking it while he coughs proudly.”
