“try hard, it doesn’t matter even if you fart”
Words of Ryoma Source: 29th June 3rd year of Bunkyu era A letter addressed to Otome Sakamoto In reality, you don’t have to take your life so seriously. Try hard, it doesn’t matter even if you fart. In May 1863 (3rd year of Bunkyu era), Ryoma was busy visiting Fukui on behalf of Katsu for establishment of a Navy school. In the long letter in which he talks about his life and his view of the world, he also encourages his sister, Otome, who was having a difficult time in the family she married into. Ryoma writes without hesitation that the world isn’t worth much so pull yourself together and give it a good try (even if it that tension makes you fart). Sisyu: “I wrote it so that you would almost hear the sound and feel the wind. I followed Ryoma’s advice when I wrote it.”
