“Power”
Words of Ryoma Source: 20th March, 3rd year of Bunkyu, In a letter to Otome Sakamoto I am putting all my power and effort into helping the country and the world. In March 1862 (2nd year of Bunkyu), aged 28, Ryoma left Tosa with Sounojou Sawamura, becoming free, ungoverned samurai. In October of the same year, he became an apprentice of Kaishu Katsu. The next year, Ryoma was forgiven for leaving Tosa without permission because of Katsu’s help. It was the first letter to his sister, Otome, in a year since he left Tosa, informing her of his whereabouts. He was proud then that he was working for Tosa and for Japan. Sisyu: “The belief that is beyond selfish desires becomes the power to keep going even when someone attacks you with a swords and tries to hurt you.”
