Japanese art is heavily influenced by "Sho", an expression of black (brush)
The art that fascinated Van Gogh 「Ukiyoe」 is also from the "Stroke of the brush".
The fine stroke line from the pitch-black trace lines astounds the world.
That line is 「drawn」 by brush, carved from wooden plates which are「created to last」 by carvers.
In this style of artwork, the wooden plates are individually carved by the colors they represent and stamped upon a single piece of paper together.
This is similar to the layering function found in the Photoshop software in modern times.
Ukiyoe art has traditionally represented and morphed 3D forms into 2D but after 250 years, Sisyu has released Ukiyoe art back from the realm of 2D into 3D.
Calligraphers draws new lines of 「stroke」 from their brush while removing traces of lines from the art's background scenery.
The stroke dances and intertwines in the air in multitude of layers. Thus, Ukiyoe is released from the shackles of its tradition.
